FLORIDA AGRICULTURAL CLAIM RESOURCES

Crop insurance claim help.

Start with the crop, the policy, and the records. A clearer claim begins with knowing which process applies.

Illustrative Florida agricultural scene

Growing crops and farm property are different exposures.

A storm may affect crops still in the field, harvested stock, trees, buildings and equipment. Those items do not automatically share insurance coverage. Citrus fruit and citrus trees may also involve distinct policies and evidence.

Understand the insurer’s crop-adjustment process.

With federally reinsured crop insurance, your approved insurance provider handles the policy and assigns its loss adjuster. Crop provisions, crop year, acreage, production history and the cause of loss matter. Private crop policies can have different terms.

Julio’s grower-side assistance is considered separately based on the policy, required authorization and agreed scope. His Florida public-adjuster license does not identify him as a USDA-certified crop loss adjuster.

Build a useful first-review file.

  • Declarations, policy forms, crop provisions and insurer contact information
  • Acreage reports, field or grove maps, relevant crop year and planting information
  • Production, harvest, sales and loss records, as applicable
  • Dated photographs, weather information and damage observations
  • Notice-of-loss confirmation, inspection findings and insurer correspondence

Keep reporting and preservation requirements in view.

Notify your agent or insurer promptly. Ask for instructions before harvesting, replanting, pruning, removing or disposing of damaged crops when approval is required. Maintain required care and keep records of steps taken to prevent further damage.

Dispute paths may differ from ordinary property claims. Ask which procedure and time limit applies to the actual policy; this guide does not provide legal advice.
